Residential Moving

Residential Moving Services in Maryland & Washington DC

Moving your home is one of the biggest transitions you’ll ever make, and it needs care and attention to detail to ensure it runs smoothly. At Home and Office Movers, we’ve spent 12 years helping Maryland and Washington DC families move with confidence, from the moment you call us to the moment your last box hits the floor of your new place. Based right here in Sykesville, MD, we know this region inside and out, and we put that local knowledge to work for every client we serve.

Whether you’re moving across the street, across the state, or making a long-distance move across the country, we bring the same care and professionalism to every job. We’re not the biggest moving company in Maryland. We’re just one of the most dedicated.

Residential Moving Services We Offer

We built our residential moving menu around one simple idea: every move is different, and your moving company should be flexible enough to meet you where you are. Here’s what we offer:

Local Moving

Moving within Maryland or the DC metro area? Local moves are our bread and butter. We handle relocations throughout Baltimore County, Howard County, Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Anne Arundel County, and across the DC metro area. Our local moving crews work efficiently without cutting corners, because your satisfaction and the safety of your items are our top priorities.

Long-Distance Moving

When your next chapter is out of state, you need a moving partner you can trust over the long haul (literally). Our long-distance moving services take you beyond the Maryland and DC borders with the same attention to detail we apply locally. We coordinate the logistics, protect your belongings for the road, and keep communication open throughout the journey so you always know where your things are.

Senior Moving Services

Moving later in life carries its own emotional weight. Whether you or a loved one is downsizing from their family home or transitioning to a senior living community, our team approaches senior moves with extra patience, sensitivity, and care. We'll help with sorting, packing, furniture placement at the new home, and anything else that makes the transition less overwhelming.

Specialty Moving

Some things just need special handling, whether it's antique furniture, fine art, pianos, or just oversized items. Our specialty moving service exists for the pieces that matter most. We use custom padding, proper equipment, and proven techniques to make sure your most valuable possessions arrive in the same condition they left.

Packing Services

Our professional packers bring quality materials and real experience wrapping, boxing, and labeling everything in your home, from the kitchen to the garage. We offer full-service, partial packing, or fragile-only services to make sure any need you have is covered.

Storage Solutions

Sometimes your closing might get delayed, your new apartment isn't ready, or you're in between homes and need somewhere safe to keep your things. Our secure storage solutions give you a clean, climate-appropriate space to store your belongings for as long as you need, whether it’s short or long-term.

Our Local Moving Process

We want you to know exactly what to expect when you hire Home and Office Movers. We provide clear communication, transparent pricing, and nothing but the best service from start to finish.

Step 1: Your Free Estimate

Contact us with the details of our move, including where you’re coming from, where you’re headed, the timeline needed, the size of your move, and any specific services or storage you might need. We'll provide a straightforward estimate with no hidden fees and no pressure.

Step 2: Move Planning

Once you're booked, we put together a plan tailored to your move. This includes your crew size, the right equipment for your home and belongings, and a realistic schedule for the day. If you're adding packing services, we'll coordinate that timeline too. We think through the details in advance, so moving day isn't a scramble.

Step 3: Moving Day

Our crew shows up on time, ready to work. We introduce ourselves, do a quick walkthrough of your home to confirm the plan, and get to it. Everything is padded, wrapped, and loaded with care. We handle the heavy lifting and handle it the right way.

Step 4: Delivery & Setup

When we arrive at your new home, we don't just drop your boxes and leave. We place your furniture where you want it, reassemble anything we disassembled for the move, and make sure you're settled before we wrap up. If something lands in the wrong room, just say the word, and we'll handle it

Step 5: Follow-Up

We care about how your move turned out. After the job is done, we check in to make sure everything went the way it should. If there's anything that needs our attention, we want to hear about it.

Why Choose Home & Office Movers?

There’s no shortage of moving companies in Maryland and Washington DC. So why do so many families in this region choose us? Here’s what we hear most often from our clients:

12 Years of Regional Expertise

We've been moving families across Maryland and DC for over a decade. Over the years, we’ve developed extensive experience in handling challenging situations, from tight staircases, parking restrictions, or even just moving in high heat. When something unexpected comes up on moving day, our crew is ready for it.

We're Local, and It Shows

Being based in Sykesville means we're your neighbors, not a national franchise managing your job from a call center three states away. We know the roads, the building regulations in DC, the neighborhoods across Howard and Montgomery counties, and what it takes to move in and out of this region's various housing types. That local familiarity matters more than most people realize until something goes wrong on moving day.

Honest, Transparent Pricing

We don't bait-and-switch. The estimate you receive reflects the actual cost of your move. If circumstances change and the price needs to be adjusted, we will talk to you about it before it happens, with no surprise charges at the end of a long moving day.

A Team That Treats Your Home Like Their Own

Every member of our crew is trained, professional, and takes pride in the work. We're not pulling in day laborers off a job board. Our movers are experienced, careful, and accountable. When they walk into your home, they treat it with respect.

Flexible Services Built Around Your Needs

Not every move looks the same, and we don't treat them like they do. Whether you need a full-service move with packing, storage, and specialty handling, or just a crew and a truck for a straightforward local move, we'll build the right package for your situation and your budget.

Ready to Get Moving? Let's Talk.

Let Home and Office Movers handle your move’s heavy lifting. Our team is ready to answer your questions, walk you through the process, and put together a plan that fits your move, your timeline, and your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book my move with Home and Office Movers?

For local moves within Maryland or the DC area, we recommend booking at least three to four weeks in advance, especially during the busy summer months (May through September). For long-distance moves or moves that include packing services, we recommend booking at least four to six weeks out to ensure you get the move date and timeline you need. That said, we try to accommodate last-minute moves when possible. Contact us to see our last-minute openings.

We supply everything needed for professional packing, including boxes in a range of sizes, packing paper, bubble wrap, wardrobe boxes, and specialty padding for fragile or oversized items. If you’re doing your own packing, we can also sell you materials directly so you’re working with the same quality supplies our crew uses.

Yes. Your belongings are covered during transport under our standard valuation coverage. We’ll walk you through your coverage options when you book, so you understand exactly what’s protected and at what level. For high-value items like fine art or antiques, we recommend discussing additional coverage options before moving day.

Absolutely. Pianos, pool tables, antique furniture, large safes, and similar oversized or high-value items are something we handle regularly. These moves require specialized equipment and techniques, so let us know about any specialty items you might have upfront and we’ll make sure the right equipment and crew members are assigned to your job.

Yes, apartment and condo moves in DC are a big part of what we do. We’re familiar with building requirements for elevator reservations, COI (certificate of insurance) requests from building management, and the parking logistics that come with DC moves. If your building has specific requirements, just let us know when you book, and we’ll handle it.
